The Techno Not Techno one doesn’t exist, but I bet you could do an expert compilation on it. It was just a sort of comment on both the Applescal and the Aphex Twin recordings.

Thanks a lot for contributing (again), Joey — and thanks for reading. I don’t have either of those comps, and would love to check them both out. Love the Aphex pick; I was just listening to the Richard D. James album on a recent Sunday morning, actually. Check in again over the coming week here for my favorite electronic releases for 2009. Edit: I HAVE the disco comp. Gotta get that Techno Not Techno one. Thanks for the heads up.

I’ve been listening to Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works 85-92 as recommended by Tom Moon in his book 1,000 Recordings to Hear Before You Die. I like unproblematic contradictions, like Strut’s Disco Not Disco comp. Techno Not Techno falls into that catagory as well.
