Missing Palmer West at World Cafe Live

Missing Palmer WestAs I’ve mentioned in this space before, my brother and good friends are in a Philly-based band called Missing Palmer West. Tonight, MPW will be performing live in Philadelphia for WXPN’s Bruce Springsteen birthday celebration, and you can peep it on the radio/Web.

If you’re a fan of Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run LP, or even if you aren’t, you should know that Missing Palmer West recorded a cover of Bruce’s epic “Jungleland” (you can get their version free here, as well as listen to/download some of their lovely new album), and they’ve been asked by Philadelphia’s WXPN (88.5 FM in PA) to play a tribute concert for the Boss’s birthday at the World Cafe in Philadelphia, home of the First Place Phils.

Born to RunThe show is sold out — but MPW’s live performance of “Jungleland” will be broadcast live tonight on the radio if you’re in Philly, or on the Web ( to listen LIVE). Sit in your living room, dial up your Internets, and crack open a cold one at around 6:50PM EST (I’ll be having Beck’s). Then, prepare to settle into the tale of parking lot visionaries and lonely hearted lovers (struggling in dark corners), as performed by the best chamber pop act around.

“Drinking warm beer in the soft summer rain / The Rat pulls into town, rolls up his pants / Together they take a stab at romance and disappear down Flamingo Lane”

  1. I heard MPWs version of Jungleland on XPN as I was sitting on I-76 last week during the evening rush hour. What a beautiful number. What a beautiful, long number.

  2. Indeed, it goes on for hours. They do it well, right? Their live performance of it tonight just ended. It was flawless — truly beautiful. Gotta get these kids out to NYC. Thanks for chiming in, Mark, and thanks for reading.
